Frequently Asked Questions

COMPLIMENTARY CONSULTATION
  • Who is Blinds Couture?

Window coverings designed with quality, creativity, and the human touch for a perfect fit.

  • What is Blinds Couture?

Blinds Couture lives in the stories of our clients’ lives, channeling their needs and solving problems to create well-designed window coverings that, like a precisely tailored garment, bring the warmth and comfort of being just right.

  • Why shouldn't I purchase drapery out of a bag at a local retailer?

To start, they are never the same length, they come in limited widths and lengths and don't operate well. Often homeowners underestimate the details involved when purchasing ready made drapery- they don't realize the complexities around how to install hardware, what the right hardware is for a functional drapery, how telescoping rods prevent the rings from sliding over the transitions easily. Not to mention- they look cheap.

  • Why are window treatments so expensive?

They aren't. We tell our clients that they should expect to spend 1-3% of their homes' value on window treatments. These details are the jewelry of the home and they will last 10-15 years usually. Window treatments should be considered an investment such as your hardwood floors or any other upgrade. You get what you pay for- and most home owners don't want to replace their shades several times because they purchased them at Home Depot from someone who also sells paint, plumbing and dish washers.

  • What's the difference in brands available? Is there really a difference between all of these brands on the market?

Yes! The way a shade is made and the quality of componentry is the largest factor in how brands differentiate themselves. The brands we carry at JRC & Blinds Couture are the best in the industry. Inexpensive brands use plastic parts and pieces- I strongly encourage a client to examine the inside of a headrail from a shade at Home Depot vs Hunter Douglas, Graber and Alta.

  • How long do window treatments last?

Depends on the brand you purchase, how you take care of them and who uses them daily. On average- we see Hunter Douglas last from 12-20 years when properly maintained and cared for.

  • What can I expect to spend on custom drapery?

Depends on if the drapery is decorative or functional. On average- a functional drapery pair of panels on a slider door, including fabric hardware and installation is $1,500-2,000. (Hinges on final fabric selection) Decor panels in a family room can range from $500-800 each- it really depends on the fabric, hardware and detailing. We now offer semi-custom options which allow our clients to select decor panels that are extremely cost effective. We build this model for our home owners who are looking to finish their space on a budget. Typically- the semi-custom options range from $400-800 installed.

  • What happens when I have an issue with one of my new shades?

This is why it matters where you purchase from. Check out the reviews on Google before selecting a company to work with, see what your fellow neighbors are saying about the company you are looking at- how do they handle service calls, warranty calls and complaints? Are they referral based? This really matters!
