Motorized Shades Cost: Denver Pricing Guide

What automation adds per shade, how battery, solar, and hardwired power compare, and what a Lutron or Control4 integration really costs.

The short answer

Motorization typically adds $250 to $600 per shade over the base treatment price in Denver. Battery powered Hunter Douglas PowerView and Lutron Serena sit in that range. Hardwired Lutron, Crestron, and Control4 systems are quoted as a system based on shade count and integration scope.

Motorization is priced as an upgrade, not a product. You choose the shade first, then add the motor, power source, and control layer. That is why a quote shows the fabric shade and the automation as separate line items.

The ranges below cover what Denver clients pay for the automation layer itself. The base shade, whether that is a Silhouette, a Vignette, or a designer roller, is quoted on top of these figures.

What motorization adds in Denver

Automation cost only. The base shade or drapery is quoted separately and varies by product line and size.

OptionTypical Denver rangeWhat it covers
Battery powered motor$250 to $600 per shadeHunter Douglas PowerView or Lutron Serena. No electrician required, which makes this the standard choice for retrofits.
Cordless lift upgrade5 to 15 percent over cordedNot motorized, but worth naming. A child safe manual lift on most product lines for a fraction of full automation.
Entry motorization$150 to $400 per windowDepends on the product line and power source. Some collections carry lower cost motor options than the flagship PowerView platform.
Hardwired and integratedQuoted as a systemLutron RA3, Crestron, and Control4 projects are priced by shade count and integration scope, and coordinated with your electrician or AV integrator.
Whole home with automation$5,000 to $30,000Motorization is usually the single largest variable in that spread. Motorizing only the hard to reach windows keeps a project in the lower half of it.

What drives the automation number

Power source

Rechargeable battery is the least expensive and needs no electrician. Charges typically last six months to a year. A solar assist panel keeps sun facing windows topped off. Hardwired is the cleanest result and the right call on new builds, but it adds electrical scope.

Control system

A standalone remote is included on most motorized orders. App and voice control needs a hub. Lutron Caseta and RA3, Crestron, and Control4 integrations carry a premium over standalone control because of the programming involved.

Shade count

Per shade cost drops as the count rises, since hubs, repeaters, and programming time are shared across the project. Motorizing eight windows is not eight times the cost of motorizing one.

Product line

Motors are engineered per collection. Silhouette, Luminette, and Vignette carry different motor assemblies and price points than a standard roller shade.

Retrofit versus new

Many Hunter Douglas shades sold in the last several years can be retrofit with a motor rather than replaced. Send photos and a model number and we will tell you whether yours qualifies.

Where automation earns its cost

Motorize what you cannot reach or will not operate. Stairwell windows, two story great rooms, and anything above a kitchen sink return the investment immediately because manual operation simply does not happen.

Motorize south and west exposures next. Scheduled shades that close during peak afternoon sun do the real work on heat gain and fading at Denver's altitude, and that only happens reliably on a schedule.

Leave guest rooms and low traffic spaces manual in phase one. Since motors can often be added later on the same shade, staging the automation keeps the first invoice down without locking you out of the full system.
