How Much Do Plantation Shutters Cost in Denver
Real price ranges for custom plantation shutters in the Denver metro, what moves the number up or down, and how to budget a whole home.
The short answer
Custom plantation shutters in Denver typically run $550 to $2,200 per window installed, or roughly $50 to $120 per square foot. Engineered wood sits at the low end. Painted hardwood, specialty shapes, and hidden tilt rods sit at the high end.
Plantation shutters are the most permanent window treatment we install. They are built to the exact opening, mounted into the frame, and read as millwork rather than a covering. That construction is why they hold value, and it is also why they price differently from a fabric shade.
Shutters are quoted per window, not per room, because every opening has its own size, shape, and mounting condition. The ranges below reflect what Blinds Couture clients actually invest across the Denver metro, from Highlands Ranch tract homes to Cherry Hills Village custom builds.

Installed pricing per window. Final numbers come from a written, line item quote after an in-home measurement.
| Option | Typical Denver range | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Engineered wood | From about $550 per window | Composite core with a durable painted finish. Best value for bedrooms, bathrooms, and standard rectangular openings. |
| Painted hardwood | $900 to $2,200 per window | Basswood or comparable hardwood in a furniture grade finish. Lighter panels allow wider spans and larger louvers. |
| Specialty shapes | $900 to $2,200 per window and up | Arches, angles, sunbursts, and bay configurations. Each unit is templated individually, which drives both cost and lead time. |
| Per square foot equivalent | $50 to $120 per square foot installed | Useful for estimating large openings and comparing against roller shades, which run $25 to $80 per square foot installed. |
| Whole home | $5,000 to $30,000 | Depends on window count, product mix, and motorization. Single rooms generally start around $1,500. |
What actually moves the price
Material
Engineered wood is the value choice and holds paint beautifully in bathrooms and kitchens. Hardwood costs more, weighs less, and lets us span wider openings with fewer divider rails.
Louver size
Larger louvers, typically 3.5 or 4.5 inch, use more material per panel and cost more than a 2.5 inch louver. They also clear the view better, which is usually worth it on primary living spaces.
Window size and shape
Price scales with square footage, but shape scales faster. An arch or an angled top costs meaningfully more than a rectangle of the same area because it is templated and cut individually.
Frame and finish details
Hidden tilt rods, split tilt, custom stain matching, and specialty frame profiles each add cost. They also account for most of the visual difference between a builder grade shutter and a couture one.
Mounting condition
Openings without adequate depth need a build out frame. Older Denver homes with out of square openings need additional shimming and fitting time at install.
How to budget a shutter project
Start with the rooms that are seen most and lived in most. Living rooms, dining rooms, and street facing elevations carry the architectural impact, so they justify hardwood and larger louvers.
Phase the rest. Shutters are individually built, so adding bedrooms or a lower level in a second phase costs no more than ordering everything at once, provided we record the specification.
Consider mixing products. Many Denver projects use shutters in the primary living areas and roller or solar shades on view facing and west exposures. That mix usually lands 20 to 30 percent below an all shutter plan while performing better against high altitude sun.
